Successful Event Despite the Weather

Candy-blog pic

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the 3rd annual Vermont Farmstead Cheese Macaroni and Cheese Challenge and did my fair share of mac and cheese eating and I already cannot wait until next year! It really makes me feel good to know that despite the less than stellar weather on Sunday, people still came out to support a wonderful cause and to have some delicious macaroni (and more importantly) CHEESE and some great beer from Harpoon Brewery.

While I was at the mac and cheese challenge I had the pleasure of meeting one of my FAVORITE customers Jackson from Vermont Maple Srirracha as well as one of my FAVORITE new customers Jeff from Pioneer Bean company they were there manning a booth with Big Lenny and took 2ndplace in the People’s Choice category! I am glad my vote helped them win! It really was a great entry and I was first in line I am happy to report and I was super excited to finally put a face to the emails I have been sending and hopefully they are happy to do the same. Of course my boyfriend made sure to tell them all that we have a shelf devoted to Vermont Maple Srirracha in our pantry because I am a devotee of Jackson’s product and it really is just that damn good! And thank you for the t-shirt; I will be rocking it at work sometime this week!

Please be sure to check out the Facebook page of Vermont Farmstead Cheese for who won as well as for pictures from the event that I am sure will be up in the coming days. Also check out some of my pictures from yesterday; I know I will be keeping them as a delicious reminder and to keep me going until next years challenge!

VT is also known for some of the best beers

Candy-blog pic

So because I love social media and because I am always on the look out for stories about our customers I was pleasantly surprised (but not shocked) when this little tid bit of a story came across my Facebook feed last night

Vt. brews named among world’s best beers

As I have mentioned before I get a great amount of pleasure and native pride when Vermont businesses are recognized for what they do on a National level but when they are recognized on an International stage that is whole other story! When I was a kid all I remember Vermont being known for was maple syrup and skiing but now we are known for the nectar of the God’s BEER! Finally, I might be able to go to the Southern US and when asked where I am from not be asked ‘where in New York is Vermont?’!

Creative Labels is lucky enough to make labels, keg rings and just about any other thing you can put on a can, bottle, keg or growler for several of the best beer makers in Vermont; not only do we have the pleasure of producing keg rings for our news story above Hill Farmstead Brewery, but we also work with 14th Star Brewery, Lost Nation, Otter Creek Brewery, Stone Corral, Crop Bistro, Trapp Family Lodge, Kingdom Brewing, Magic Hat and many more that I cant think of off the top of my head and it only makes sense to me that some of the best brewers in Vermont work with the best label producer in Vermont!

Now that I have covered one of my favorite types of beverages let me subtly move towards one of my favorite foods and festivals being held coincidentally at one of my favorite breweries, the Vermont Farmstead Cheese’s Mac and Cheese Challenge! Please if you want to sample delicious comfort food, support a GREAT cause and have some excellent beer in a beautiful location, come to Windsor on Sunday and have some mac and cheese! And if you do come and see a tall red headed man carrying out a short brown haired girl who looks like she has succumbed to an over indulgence of cheese, clutching a 3rd annual Vermont Farmstead Cheese Mac and cheese Challenge t-shirt, that will be me! So come over and say hi and I will tell you about Creative Labels, why you should do business with us and I will try to get you to laugh as my boyfriend drags me away from the tent as I try to go back in for more samples! I wonder what you do for a cheese hangover? I guess we will find out on Monday when I come in for work!

labels and the products they get wrapped around…

Candy-blog pic

Back from a short hiatus here I am back to regale you with stories of labels and the products they get wrapped around.

Speaking of products our labels get wrapped around, I just received my tickets to the Vermont Farmstead Cheese’s Vermont Mac and Cheese Challenge and my mouth is already watering. And my wallet is feeling pretty light.

vt mac and cheese challenge

That is the “problem” with working here at CLOV, I see and get to be a part of making great labels for all of these wonderful products and I of course have to sample them. Sometimes I get lucky and our wonderful customers send us samples of their product and other times my curiosity gets the better of me and I just go ahead and order things just so I have the chance to try them.

Last year I was lucky enough to get to go down to Windsor and try the Mac and Cheese Challenge and was so happy that I did, the combination of wonderful Vermont made cheese, Harpoon beer and of course carbs made for an absolutely wonderful day. I encourage anyone who can to go and check it out if not for the great food and atmosphere then for the fact that all the proceeds go to benefit the Vermont Food bank and Sustainable Woodstock, both wonderful charities that do great work for Vermonters.

I love Vermont, I love being a native Vermonter, working for a Vermont company and I love the fact that we make a TON of labels for Vermont products (even the ones that don’t go on food). One of my biggest pleasures during the summer is going to various farmers markets in the area and trying out new veggie stands and the homemade products that are there. And it gives me great pleasure while talking to these vendors to tell them how we are a Vermont company and how if they would like to stick a label on something then they should use one that is made in Vermont. So if you see me around the greater Chittenden/Addison County areas carrying way too much stuff for the bag I might have with me, stop and say hi and I will talk to you about labels, what we here at Creative Labels can do for your label needs and I might let you try some of my “treasure” I just bought. I’m still trying to figure out what I am going to put the raspberry jalapeno jam that I bought on Friday at the Essex Junction Farmers market on. Going to have to find a really good muffin or scone I guess…

Creative Musings with Candy

Candy-blog pic

Inaugural blog post = exciting! For me because I will be writing about the exciting world of labels and my favorite thing of all time the foods they go on. And exciting for you because you will get to enjoy my musings and get a glimpse into my hilarity. Of course we here at Creative Labels of Vermont produce labels for all sorts of other things beside food but since it’s my first blog post, I am going to write about something I like the best. FOOD.

Butter. Its one of my favorite food groups, aside from cheese and Diet Coke. Yes, you read that correctly; butter, cheese and Diet Coke have their own food groups (at least in my slightly a skewed world). And recently one of our favorite customers Vermont Creamery, (who produce products that fall into two of my food groups) won a prestigious SOFI award at the Specialty Food Association’s Fancy Food Show in NYC this past June for their Cultured Butter basket. Let me just say that their butter is DELICIOUS. When I had their butter for the first time all I could think of was the Mike Myers Coffee Talk skit from SNL where he and Madonna were talking about Barbara Streisand being like “buttah”, wonderfully, deliciously, creamy and what you’d imagine heaven tasting like. I cannot be prouder of their accomplishment, both as someone who gets to brag EVERYTIME I am in the grocery store that we here at CLOV make their labels but as a born and raised Vermonter. I find it absolutely wonderful when a Vermont company is recognized for what they make, and shows the world that Vermont is more than just delicious maple syrup. Congratulations Vermont Creamery, keep up the excellent work!
